Ambassador Trolley - Energy Saving
Dated: 11/08/2009
VICTOR - HOT ON ENERGY SAVING
Victor Manufacturing a UK manufacturer of catering equipment has developed a super-insulated serving trolley in conjunction with a national care home group. The new Ambassador trolley delivers a massive 49% reduction in energy consumption compared with the previous un-insulated models with standard insulation. With electricity at approx 10 pence per kWh the Ambassador super-insulated saves an impressive 7.2 pence per hour.
Victor took its standard heavy duty Ambassador 20 model and enhanced the air gap between the inner and outer wraps of the unit and the doors with 25mm thick Rockwool. The energy consumption was then compared with one without insulation at normal running temperatures: hot cupboard at 85°C and bains marie at 90°C - the result was a 49.3% reduction in energy consumption, or 0.72kWh/h.
It is estimated that a care home would use each trolley for 6 hours per day (3 x 2 hours). Typically the end user would pay an additional £90 or 3.5% more for the new AMB20Y than the standard unit, giving a pay back within 7 months.
The expected life of a trolley in heavy use, seven days a week, 365 days per year is five years or 1825 days, so the total saving over the life of the unit is approx £780 or 25% of the purchase price.
