NEW CESA CHAIR FOCUSES ON PRACTICAL, ACHIEVABLE, SUSTAINABILITY LEGISLATION

“CESA will use its influence to protect the interests of the UK foodservice industry”

Mick Shaddock, the new Chair of the Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA) raises his vision for the Association, “CESA has an increasingly important role in influencing legislation, particularly in reference to sustainability and energy usage.  It is vital that we continue to build on this influence, in order to protect the interests of members and the foodservice industry as a whole.”

He points to CESA’s input into key areas of environmental legislation, such as the WEEE directive, Gas Safety and the Carbon Trust’s Energy Technology List (ETL).  “Together with EFCEM (the European Federation of Catering Equipment Manufacturers), we are currently helping to shape the EuP Directive (Energy Using Products) coming out of Brussels,” he adds.  “And as an Association we are keen to reflect our members’ commitment to sustainability, and by being involved in the development process of the standards, we can help shape and ensure legislation is practical and achievable.”

“We also need to maintain support in related areas that will encourage energy-led R&D initiatives by manufacturers – for example – getting more equipment categories onto the ETL, and encouraging the development of effective green procurement processes.”

Mick Shaddock, managing director of Victor Manufacturing brings a wealth of experience and catering equipment industry expertise to his role as the new chair of CESA, having worked in this arena since the early 1980s.

In taking up the post Mick praised the contribution of his predecessor, Malcolm Harling of AFE Group.  “All of us on the CESA Council recognise his enormous commitment and effort, and I will strive to build on the solid foundations put in place, not only by Malcolm, but by a succession of productive chairs before him.”

Nick Oryino, managing director of the Carford Group, is the new vice chair of CESA.  He will take over from Mick at the end of his tenure, in November 2012.

The Catering Equipment Suppliers Association (CESA)represents over 140 companies who supply, service and maintain all types of commercial catering equipment - from utensils to full kitchen schemes.  For more information on CESA visit www.cesa.org.uk
